Default Old account new account?

So my problem is I have an old GW1 account I bought the game on release and never got into it, never touched it in 7 years since that day.

Fast forward today I'm waiting for GW2, and decided to go back and play the first for lore reasons mainly. But then I also would not mind working on the HoM also.

Amazing enough I still have the GW1 box, and I can log into the game still have 3 characters ranging from level 3-7.

Now with needing EoTN should I just buy the platinum edition of the game, start over and transfer the birthday presents to the new account. This would also give me the GoTY edition of prophecies.

I would say yes to new account. Not so much that you couldn't just add those keys to your current count, but that sometimes it's handy to have a second account (for muleing gear, nick's gifts, etc). If you add the keys to the current account, you basically "toss" your prophecies key. Since it sounds like most of your chars are probably still in searing or in post-sear ascalon, it's not like you're losing anything.

since you havent gotten far with the first account, I would just keep it as a mule account to store stuff on ( and get bday gifts)....start over with the new account with all the chapters and eye.

You might as well get a second account, but you should also be realistic about your expectations for HOM. Chances are you will get little or nothing beyond the base 3 points in time for GW2. HOM points in general cost a lot of time and/or gold. For you to buy into the game now, you are basically paying real money for what are probably crap starter items in GW2.

If you're serious about HOM, you will need Factions and Nightfall as well, sooner than later.

Otherwise I'd advise you to forget the whole thing.

Re-read his post. His main goal here is the lore and story; HoM is a side objective.

With that said, if he finishes each campaign and dedicates the miniatures he received(guess 12-15 are not copies), he can get a small number of points before launch.

Yes the HoM is just gravy to me, I'm mainly going for the lore. I just figured might as well get some HoM points along with it.

Thanks everyone for the info, and advise.

I did something similar, starting a few months back. One thing I'll say is, if you had planned on playing the game from a chronological perspective (proph->factions->nightfall->EoTN) it's considerably harder than doing it piece meal.

I think it's important to at least start a character in proph to experience pre and post-searing ascalon from that perspective, but that doesn't mean you need to make that your main.

I did it that way (chronological) and it was an uphill battle.

If you decide to do it this way, and you don't mind dropping cash, skill unlock packs and merc heroes basically make up for most of the issues. You'll just need to pick up some elite tomes for your char to learn some elites.

I wish someone had told me this.

I can't see the point of getting new account when you can just add keys to that one. There you have at least something, on the new account you won't have anything + you'll spend money for no reason.

I'm not sure, but doesn't the platinum edition has 4 codes? one for each campaign and one for the expansion?

In that case you could add he nightfall, factions and EotN key to your current account and use the new prophecy's key as a second storage account. Same effect, but easier with birthday-presents....

EotN expansion is $19.99, Platinum is $19.99.

Also my max character level on the old account is level 7.
I was under the impression that the tonics and minis from the Bday presents can be traded and sold or am I mistaken.

You are correct; the present, tonics, and minis can all be traded.

If you intend to do anything with your HoM, you might consider hanging onto some of the minis for dedication. The tonic presents may be worth more if sold unopened rather than taking your risks on getting a dirt-common tonic.
